Old town of Modena
What's there to see in Modena? The old town is beautiful: full of magnificent palaces (like Palazzo Ducale), very rich churches, extraordinary museums (the Galleria Estense) and important monuments. Duomo, Ghirlandina and Piazza Grande are actually UNESCO World Heritage Sites!
Modena is a land of motors, as proven by the incredible collections of the two Ferrari museums. It is the heart of Bel Canto opera thanks to Mirella Freni and Luciano Pavarotti, to whom the Teatro Comunale is dedicated. It is the capital of good local cuisine (traditional balsamic vinegar, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Lambrusco, tortellini, zampone, cotechino...).
Food and wine tours
In addition to the historical-artistic treasures and the fame of the Motor Valley, our city is also the home of the traditional local food and wine that is the pride of this land. The agro-food excellence products that have made Modena great in the world are, for example, the Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO, Parmigiano Reggiano, cold cuts, wines, homemade pasta (tortellini, tortelloni, lasagne, passatelli...), typical local sweets and other products of the local food and wine tradition.
Fairs and events
From our Hotel you can easily reach the trade fairs in Modena, but also in Parma and Bologna to take part in the many fairs and events that take place during the year, for example: the Cersaie at the Bologna trade fair, the international ceramics exhibition; Cibus at the Parma trade fair, the reference event for the Italian food industry; Electronics and Antiques Fair at the Modena trade fair.
Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo
The Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo is one of the most important Baroque palaces in northern Italy. An architectural delight where frescoes, stucco decorations, sculptures and fountains bear witness to the sophisticated aesthetic taste of the Este dukes. The palace, part of the Gallerie Estensi, is finally open to the public after a major restoration. A unique experience to immerse yourself in the private rooms of one of the most elegant Italian dynasties. For visiting hours and conditions, please visit the website of "Gallerie Estensi".
Salse di Nirano
The Salse di Nirano nature reserve is a protected natural area
entirely located within the municipal territory of Fiorano Modenese, in the province of Modena, in a hilly area with badlands
between 150 and 300 metres above sea level. It was the first regional nature reserve
to be established in Emilia-Romagna. The heart of the reserve is marked by the presence of the unusual geological phenomenon of eruptive sauces. This is caused by the rising from the subsoil of cold clayey mud mixed with hydrocarbons, which, as it dries, builds volcanic-looking cones up to a few metres high. The growth of these small volcanoes is in equilibrium between the continuous contribution of mud from the subsoil and their washout by rain. In the silence of this place, you can perceive the weak mumbling produced by the bubbles of gas released.
The entire area can be walked along simple marked paths.
Old town of Reggio Emilia
The old town of Reggio Emilia has some features that make it very interesting from an architectural point of view.
First of all, its shape: enclosed by the now-demolished defensive walls of the Roman era, and enlarged during the Middle Ages, it has a vaguely hexagonal layout, where the squares are a distinctive element, as they are permanently connected.
Moreover, the alleys, often very narrow or enriched by porticoes, distinctively cross the city, connecting the main streets and tracing the hexagonal footprint of the territory.
The city centre, in any case, is the core of a city that, in recent years, has been enriched with modern elements, proposing itself as an original and successful combination of traditional and contemporary architecture. It starts from Piazza Della Vittoria and proceeds towards Piazza del Monte, the ideal hub of the city, located in the middle of Via Aemilia, the consular road that crosses the city centre. We then enter Piazza Prampolini, the seat of the temporal (municipality) and spiritual power (the diocese) and, through Vicolo Broletto, in Piazza San Prospero. The route ends in the characteristic Piazza Fontanesi.
